It’s been 20 years since Gjurin released his first original record, which he launched with the accompanying improvisational literary-musical Projekt Mesto – Minute? (Project City – Minutes?). A year earlier, his poetry collection Mesto (City) earned him a nomination for the best literary debut at the Slovenian Book Fair. Since then he released a staggering 21 original studio and live albums that draw from a variety of genres, which were released both on the Slovenian and North American market, with Gjurin, as a renowned multi-instrumentalist, recording most of them himself. His poetry has been translated into 7 languages and found its way into poetry anthologies. During his 25-year career he pieced together a series of evergreen hits in Slovenia, while as a Canadian, he won two OMA awards in Toronto in 2021 and 2022 for the Best Song of the Year (for his songs Secret and Shine). He ranked among the top-50 artists twice in a row in Nashville, USA, in a competition that featured 25,000 artists from around the world. This retrospective concert will feature both Gal’s best-known hits and poetry, as well as award-winning songs from Canada and the USA and new songs in Slovenian.
