Češke sanje (Czech Dream), directed by Vit Klusák and Filip Remunda

90 min, 2004

In 2003, Czech film students at FAMU, Vit Klusák and Filip Remunda, both internationally acclaimed film directors today, decided to investigate how marketing and propaganda can affect people’s opinions – they pretended they would soon be opening a massive new supermarket. They transformed into businessmen, swapped their clothes for business attire, and had their hair done. With the help of a government donation, they created an advertising campaign to stir up interest in Prague for the grand opening of a non-existent store that offers a variety of products at low prices. 20 years after this documentary, the question about the role of consumerism and the credibility of media campaigns is just as pressing as it was then.

The documentary will be screened with the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic and in cooperation with Društvo za razvoj humanistike - Zofijini ljubimci (Association for the Development of Humanities – Zofia’s Lovers) and AGD Gustaf.
