Jure Tori is thus standing side by side with tango’s greats, all while playing and composing tango in a way that is truly his own.

The sensibility of original music emanating from the grips of Jure Tori, the accordionist of the band Orlek, was a perfect match for cross-genre outlets. By wowing together his characteristic intimate and sensitive instrumental lyricism with elements of jazz, folk and ethno in his previous solo endeavours, the music’s true colours have finally crystallized into something completely new – a never before heard and unique version of tango.

But there is one important difference, along with the distinct excellence of Jure mostly “playing himself”, which has led to his music evoking intimate feelings and displaying a lyrical persuasiveness and finally finding a musical form with the best fir – a delicate version of the genre, tango embodied. The type of tango that, while being attached to the strings of both tango tipico and tango nuevo and other stylistic iterations, carries a well-recognizable essence of being the original variation coming from the mind composer and instrumentalist Jure Tori, thus making it completely unique, new and different.

Tori tango is a true novelty on the otherwise well diversified Slovenian music scene, as their repertoire is completely original and project-based both in terms of composition and authorship and earmarked for release on a dedicated album. Tori tango is the first integral and fully original tango project by a Slovenian author. Jure Tori is thus standing side by side with tango’s greats, all while playing and composing tango in a way that is truly his own.

To turn this idea into reality, Jure transformed his Tori Trio into a quarter. Aside from the Austrian double bass player Ewald Oberleitner and Cuban guitar player Ariel Cubria, Jure brought along the excellent violin player from the other side of the Karavanke mountains Kurt Bauer and dubbed his band Tori tango. The band’s repertoire consists of exclusively new music and assembles and disassembles live all the elements that make tango great; from intimate and lyrical instrumental tenderness, all the way to the fieriness of the latino heart.
