This year, Festival Lent will mark its 20th anniversary, which is with no doubt the biggest cultural event this year in Maribor. However, this year’s festival won’t rely only on its rich tradition and past successes, but will also bring numerous novelties and youthful freshness.
The year 2012 is also a beginning of new cooperation: Mladina Stage (MS) and Creative Underground (CU) will share a venue at Kino Udarnik cinema and provide the fans with modern urban music.
From June 22nd till July 7th, the new venue will host over 80 bands and DJs from all over Slovenia, such as Dope D.O.D. from Netherlands (June 24th), the Italian master of electronic underground production Dusty Kid (June 23rd) and DJ duo Alex di Stefano - Norbert Davenport (July 7th). In addition, there will also be performances of some of the best underground bands from former
Yugoslavia, such as Leni Kravac (June 22nd), mash-up masters Diskobajagi (June 26th), Serbian hardrockers Rain Delay (June 30th), a unique fusion of ethno and dub Sopot from Bosnia (July 5th) and an energetic Croatian underground senzation After je bolji od partija (July 5th). Creative Undeground will introduce some of the most popular Slovene electronic artists, such as Reconceal, Trick-C, David Manali, JK Soul, Plankton, Vibe Department, Zavod Kru, Chakra, Spherax records and many others.
The rich program promises a least four performers per night, therefore the visitors are advised to arrive on time. The concerts begin at 10.30 PM and last until midnight, except on June 26th (10 PM) and July 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th (9 PM). The venues will be open from 9 PM till 4 AM on weekdays and from 9 PM till 6 AM on weekends. Entry possible with a festival ticket or daily ticket.
Tim Strnad, Mladina Stage producer: “I feel everything that happened in the past seven years lead to this year’s MSxCU. Together, we are better, louder and more beautiful!”
Žan Lebe, Creative Underground producer: “After a successful first year, Creative Underground took a step forward by offering more fresh, quality and creative electronic music. This year, we invited over 60 talented musicians from all over Slovenia that will shake the dancefloor of Udarnik hall. The repertoire also includes famous and experienced artists from abroad. The biggest novelty is with no doubt the cooperation with Mladina stage; together, we were able to create a great program that combines electronic and band music. So, when you don’t know which venue to visit, the answer should be: Udarnik!”
In addition to the rich music program, the media sponsor Mladina also prepared an exhibition of the internationally renowned photographer Peter Gedei. The exhibition will introduce the wonderful underground world and will be located at the Union hall.
Mladina also organized four free movie nights: on Tuesdays and Fridays at 7 PM: a documentary about the golden years of Yugoslavian film industry: Cinema Komunisto (26.6.), Canadian menage a trois by Xavier Dolan: Heartbeats (29.6.), an amazing documentary based on Che’s journals: Che – New man (3.7.) nd a roadtrip comedy: Mammuth (6.7.) with Gerard Depardieu and directed by the duo Gustane Gustave de Kervem - Benoit Delepine.
